Project: Palm Bay Resort Refurbish

Palm Bay Resort, Long Reef Island, Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia

In January 2019, we were contacted by the General Manager of Palm Bay Resort to assist with their furniture requirements for the refurbishment of their 20 rooms comprising bungalows, villas and bures. Being an Eco Resort with an abundance of natural wild life – sulphur-crested cockatoos, rock wallabies and goannas,  – overlooking sandy beaches and surrounded by the clear aqua waters of the Coral Sea, our brief was to supply eco- friendly furniture in the form of wicker and rattan pieces and timber furniture in natural earthy tones with accents of aqua and teal in the upholstery and cushions to reflect the colours of the sea.

We achieved this by introducing bedheads and bedroom chairs for the bungalows and bures made from rattan with a natural abacá weave combined with accent cushions in teal and aqua. We also supplied small dining tables, coffee tables and side tables for the rooms made of rubberwood, an eco-friendly sustainable high- quality wood in a light oak stain, to match the bedside tables which we had custom made in American Oak.

The dining chairs were upholstered in a teal fabric with light oak stained timber legs to complement the rest of the furniture. Small Sofas and Daybeds were also supplied for the bungalows and bures.

Adjoining the poolside area, featuring a large salt-water swimming pool with a cascading waterfall, is the poolside dining area which leads into the bar area and main lobby. We supplied new stools for the bar and coffee tables for the lobby, made of rubberwood in the same light oak stain as the room furniture.

In addition to the rubberwood furniture, we supplied a new sofa in a plain taupe upholstery to complement the existing sofas with their Aztec patterned upholstery, a floor rug in tones of ivory and taupe, and a recycled elm sideboard for the main lobby. Artificial plants and planter boxes for the dining area and green sofa scatter cushions were included, to add a splash of colour and to reflect the tropical flora of the island.

We had new sofas custom made for the villas and supplied outdoor resin wicker furniture and slatted timber dining tables for the balconies, which overlooked the bay

Below are some of the Mood Board Presentations for the Villas that we submitted to our client, that encapsulate the interior design concepts.

“We are a small resort in the Whitsundays. When we decided to refurbish we emailed Resortium Concepts. Their response was immediate and very professional. The suggestions put forward were excellent and presented very well. From the beginning to the end Linda was very attentive and professional. From arranging inspections of the furniture to organising transportation the whole process was streamlined and well executed. We would highly recommend Resortium Concepts for your next project.”
