Mercure Hotel, Gladstone

Resortium Project – Queensland, Australia

In November 2011 we were contacted by Brand and Slater Architects in Brisbane asking us for our assistance in fitting out a 60 room new build hotel, to serve as an extension to the Yaralla Sports Club in Gladstone, and to be managed and operated by Mercure as part of the Accor Hotels Group.

It was a very interesting and challenging project for us and working with Brand and Slater was a real pleasure.

We initially created a prototype room in collaboration with Brand and Slater’s joiners at their factory in Brisbane. For this exercise we supplied the bed, the bedside tables, the sofa bed, armchair, side table, dining table, dining chair and table lamps. Happily we passed muster on all counts with only some minor alterations required.

Then followed several months of fine tuning design concepts and specifications with Brand and Slater, and placing orders with our suppliers’ factories for the custom made furniture, as well as with our wholesalers for the supply of ready made furniture, lighting and room accessories.

As the construction program was delayed it was agreed that we would deliver the furniture in two instalments, the first being in early July 2012.

When we arrived to oversee the first installation, the site was still very much under construction. As a result we had to navigate around the many trades on site, overseen by Paynter Dixon Constructions.

The internal lift was not operating so we had to use a crane to lift all the goods inside a container on to the second floor level and unload and install from there.

We had considerable help from the CEO of the Yaralla Sports Club — Will Schroeder — whose staff assisted us with the unpacking and removal of packaging materials.

The construction team from Paynter Dixon also helped us where they could and we finally completed the second installation in the middle of August 2012.

It was a challenging installation but at the same time a rewarding one working with a very helpful and friendly team of people.

After a 15 month construction process the new $14.8 million 4.5 star Mercure Hotel was handed back by Paynter Dixon upon completion on 10 December 2012.

“Resortium completed the supply and installation of the loose furniture, lighting, artwork and room accessories at our new Yaralla Mercure hotel in Gladstone.

This work was of a high quality and was provided on time.

We were impressed with the effort Resortium exhibited to ensure quality and on-time completion and are pleased to recommend their services.”
